Recipe: Sesame Spinach [ほうれん草の胡麻和え]

Sesame Spinach is a very standard side dish in Japanese home cooking. You’ll find it in almost every Japanese home.
Its very basic but super yummy!

What you’ll need

1 bunch of spinach
4 tablespoons of ground sesame
4 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of soysauce
Whole sesame seeds to garnish

1. Wash and lay out the spinach in one layer in a microwave safe dish. Add a little water, cover with plastic wrap and microwave on high for 2-4mins till wilted.

Alternatively you can just boil your spinach. Whichever you prefer.

2. Rinse in cold water to stop cooking process and drain [check out my hot pink colander XD]

3. Pat dry with paper towel and cut into 2inch sections.

4. Lay out in dish used previously.

5. Sprinkle sesame,sugar and soy sauce mixture over it. Mix throughly.

To store, wrap individual portions in plastic wrap and refrigerate.

Or to store for longer periods, you can freeze them and thaw it out as needed in the fridge overnight.
This dish is excellent in bentos as well!

    i think you lose less nutrients in the spinach too since u are just using a little water rather than a whole pot :D

    is there more than one variety of spinach? XD? see i dont even know, i say any spinach will work :D
    if u are boiling it, i think just 30seconds will do.
    remember to add salt to the boiling water [abt a pinch]
