Yup, i am finally doing that nail tutorial i promised.
This is also going to be the first time i write about my konad stamping set which i bought over a year ago XD

konad
Konad Stamping set

Sadly i could not figure out how to take photos of my nails whilst i am painting it.
So..i decided to get some fake nails XD
nail01
There’s a funny story about these fake nails. When i asked the lady at the store, she told me they were $25HKD [about USD$3.50]. I assumed she meant it was that price for one set [10 aka one for each finger] Turns out it was the price for the whole box [as above] No idea if this is a good price as  i never wore fake fingernails in my life. I always think i will probably end up eating them by mistake cos i am so careless hahaha

Note: This is a REALLY basic idea tutorial and how konad is used. I know a lot of you ladies out there already own it so its probably not very exciting for you. But i promised to do this for a few ladies who had not used or heard of konad before.

Items used:
nail02

The nail polishes
nail03
From left: Konad Special nail polish in black, Pink  Bonbon nail polish, Parado French Manicure Nail polish

And the konad stamping set
nail04
I have no clue what the number of the plate used is [i threw all the packets away and never wrote the numbers on the back of the plate, i probably should have]

Ok onto the nail painting!

Step 1: 2 Coats of Pink Bonbon nail polish
nail05

Step 2: Cover konad design you are using with a thickish coat of konad special nail polish
nail06

Step 3: Scrap excess off with the konad scraper
nail07

It kinda looks like below [ink is left in the etched surface]
nail08

Step 4: Lift the design with the konad stamper
nail09

Step 5: Stamp onto your nail
nail11

Step 6: Do a french manicure with the silver nail polish
nail13
Note how the nail polish has a special end specially made for easy french manicures. ^^

Finished product
nail14
Add topcoat of choice ^^

And how my nails look like
Untitled
Note, these are my REAL nails. I do not wear fake nails.

Where i bought:
Konad nail polish, stamper kit

I bought these in Hong Kong a year ago directly from the distributor when i came here on a business trip. You can visit their store in Sino Centre in Mongkok. Many people have said that you do not need to use konad nail polish, just a nail polish with a thick consistency. However since i already bought so many bottles of konad nail polish, i never bothered to try anything else.

PinkBonbon nail polish

Matsumoto Kiyoshi drugstore in Japan

Parado french manicure nail polish

7-11 in Tokyo. Parado is exclusively sold in 7-11 conbini stores in Japan.

This tutorial has made me realise, its a lot easier to do my own nails then a fake nail. It was so hard to hold and direct. Whereas if its my own nail, i can turn my hand to fit the konad stamp better and its far more steady.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
And i am hoping you guys dont hate my nail tutorials too much cos i want to do another one using the nail polishes Miss Nikki gifted me ages ago. Its long overdue but at least i finally figured out how to do a tutorial [aka using the fake nails haha since i have so many] If you like nail tutorials, you should check out Miss Nikki’s cos she has loadsa good ones!

XOXO Yumeko

p.s is it obvious i am trying to squeeze in 3 posts this week? i have no idea how i used to blog daily!!!

  9. Nikki says:

wow, you were able to take good shots! I have tried stamping but not really from Konad, just random brands, how come you make it look so pretty? Me? I gave up and went for nail painting instead ! hahaha :) Welcome back to HK!!!! Heard the weather is cold there!

  10. sizbelle says:

i think you got those fake nails for pretty good price i guess.

maybe you can try creating new design on those fake nails and put it as collection for future reference.

konad stamping kit is still on my wishlist, target to get them soon!

  11. lilian says:

Hiee, I’m a fellow Konad lover too! The plate you used is M50. all the codes are etched on the plates (just next to the word Konad) ;) HTHs

  12. Chung says:

I knew about these for awhile but I actually haven’t seen a tut till now. Looks like a nice thing to have but I’m a lazy nails kinda girl (just really prefer 1 colour or French) so I’ll just admire yours XD. Great tut by the way! Short and to the point.

  13. Anastacia says:

You have so much by Konad! Yay! So cool! Nice tutorial by the way! You did it :) Lovely design! On your real nails it looks very neat and beautiful!!! Love it!

  14. heartbreaker says:

ohh the plate number is written on the side ^^ m50 i think,i have the exact plate, heheh.ahhh, yours is well done,i can’t seem to lift it up T.T oh well, very nice tutorial, thank you! :3

  15. wuzzyangel says:

Yes pls don’t eat the fake nails! LOL! But the end result is soo pretty! Thanks for sharing how you do it with us. I swear it looks simple enough when I see the infomercials or peeps do it at the product show, but I don’t think I could ever do it myself. I have a hard time with just basic polish! LOL!

  16. Ciara says:

I love that! That is so cool! I’ve never seen or heard of a nail stamper before! Your nails are so long!! How did you get them to grow that long?

  17. Justine says:

    You know I don’t/can’t paint my nails but I tried a set of those fake stick-on ones for a friend’s wedding? And they drove me CRAZY. They were so much longer and I couldn’t type or use my phone with them… needless to say after the wedding I pulled them off right away XD;

I am always So tempted by Konad whenever I see tutorials but the only place I’d wear it would be my toes… and it seems like stamping my toes would be really hard, haha! Can’t wait to see the next nail look :)

  18. adin says:

how come I didn’t buy those konad plates when they were on sale last week…I like how you styled your nails…& it looks so simple to do…thanks..

    • Bittenbefore says:

i dont know how cheap they are on the sale site but on ebay, u can get it for pretty cheap., like a starter kit for $5 to $7 [scraper, stamp and a plate or two]

  19. Iris says:

So that’s how Konad works! I kept seeing Konad being mentioned all over the beauty blogs but never read a post that explained how it works and the method of application. Very educational, thank you! Love the butterfly print too!

    • Bittenbefore says:

YAY!! same with me! when i started reading blogs, i had no clue what ppl meant by konad. all i see in tutorials were…nail color..then suddenly drawing! and the explanation was..i used konad. i was like..huh what konad XD glad this was of use to u!!!

if you are a huge kitty fan like myself, you might wanna check out fauxnad hello kitty image! (credits to http://artofnail.blogspot.com/2009/10/hello-kitty.html) LMK if you need help on that. I got mine from evilbay ;)

  21. lilian says:

managed to dig up a blurry iphone pic of the HK image which I did a while back: http://www.flickr.com/photos/90128547@N00/3655991502/

  22. lilian says:

the seller whom i have bought from seem to hv closed his e-store down. However you can try asking the following HK-based sellers if they have A02 image plate (specify you want the hello kitty image):

    http://cgi.ebay.com.hk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300404883224&pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Nails_Manicure_Pedicure_CA&hash=item45f186bf18

The HK plate is hexagon in shape instead of the round ones like konad..

  24. Dina (XYYan) says:

It’s simple yet so pretty! I’ll try some Konad stamps next time :D

  25. evie says:

love the tutorial!! i like the way you decorate your nails! pretty~~ i just got the konad kit not long ago but like it very much! except its quite tedious to do one hand and accidentally smudge the other hands sometimes!.oh and i think the konad stamping nail polishes are still the best for stamping haha..going to buy more~ ^^

  26. Dory says:

V cool. Didn’t know these things exist! Haha

  27. I am so impressed that you can do the design on your REAL nails!

    GORGEOUS!

  28. Nicola says:

cool tut!! Im digging the peachy bon bon colour! Thank God you got it in Japan! lol

  29. maryinwonder says:

ooh it’s so easy, yet I never understood how one does the “stamping”
    Thank you for the tutorial!
So you can use only that special black polish for stamping? Or is it possible o substitute it with another polish/brand?

  30. Krib says:

This is simple but nice ^-^

  31. Kitty says:

Oh wow that looks so pretty! I wish I could afford some Konad stampers to make pretty nails like that!! Thank you for sharing though, one day when I can afford them I will buy some of this!!

  32. Sasha says:

Hi, this is my first time commenting, but I just wanted to say thank you very much for this tutorial! I have been interested in this, but I never understood them fully until your tutorial!! :D

Thank you so much, I know it must consume a lot of your free time to blog as you do, but it really makes me happy to come home from work and read your blog! It’s very much appreciated! <3 <3

    • Bittenbefore says:

thank you for commenting!! i am glad this tutorial was of some use to you!!!
i am always grateful to know people are reading my blog!!

  33. jewels says:

    soooooooooooooooo pretty!

  34. confected says:

Ohoooo I see now. I don’t understand how the design can be lifted up and then put on the nail (what magic is that stamper made of?? haha) but whoo cool. xD

    Thanks for posting this!

    • Bittenbefore says:

the paint kinda dries immediately. think of it like a rubber seal. so when u lift it up, its like lifting a thin rubbery film.
next time i am in singapore, will bring it with me to do ur nails <3

      • confected says:

Eeee you would? Thank youuuu! <3

My bottle of nail polish remover got dropped a couple of months back and I never bothered replacing it, so I stopped doing my nails completely. Maybe it's time to start again. *googles konad*

        • Bittenbefore says:

i know a lot of ppl say it always looks nicer at the salon and i agree sometimes
but i find it theraputic to do my nails.
once its all done [no matter how it looks like] i feel like everything can be better
          i am so corny

  35. zuuchini says:

thanks for shariiing!! i wanna buy konad kit too…but still wondering!

  36. Charlotte says:

Thanks for posting this tutorial! Great idea to use the fake nails for the purpose of demonstrating.
I’ve been obsessed with Konad stamps for ages, but I don’t see many tutorials for their product range.

  37. rei-chan says:

they look so beautiful~ I hope I can get something similar when I go to china..

    • Bittenbefore says:

i think so! there is a knockoff version of konad which you can see for sale online and its for china ^^

      • rei-chan says:

LOL thanks! i always appreciate that you reply to comments ??

btw, out of curiosity, which to you prefer Tianjin or Hangzhou? (i don’t know if you’ve even been to these places, but I have two opportunities to teach English in the summer, and I want to get as many opinions as possible..

  38. Trina says:

Thanks for the tutorial! And your nails are really cool.

And I’ve never heard of a konad stamping set, but it’s pretty cool how it stamps polish. I wish I can buy it. ;]

  39. *~kAy~* says:

    thanks for sharing! :)
reminds me to use my konad stuff haha! I haven’t used it in a long time! :P

  40. Olive says:

Those are some fabulous nails! I hankering to try some konad stamps now, are they easy to use?

    • Bittenbefore says:

yes and no. because my nails are naturally quite large..doing a full design [say like leopard print or fishnet style] is difficult as i cant match up the seams well.
if its just for a basic flower or print like this, its quite easy i feel.

  41. Sofie says:

Sometimes my computer fails >-<; I commented on this a while ago and my comment… Didn't send…. I wonder if this happend with other comments also…
    Anyway!
I love the parado nail polish! So pretty! Why must all the pretty things exist in asia haha
Thank you for the tutorial! ^^

  42. maryinwonder says:

Hey! You mentioned you couldn’t leave a comment on my blog….I dunno why! @_@ Couldn’t figure it out, sorry! T_T
I wanted to write this at the post (here: http://bittenbefore.com/tokyolife/2010/02/22/korean-magazine-ceci-scans-feb-issue/#comments ) you replied, but I can’t seem to find the “reply” button nor the “comment”. Is commenting closed?

We can’t write on each others’ blogs without problems?! LOL

    • Bittenbefore says:

if the blog post is over a month old, the commenting is closed heehee i just had it set up this way to prevent spam since i am not blogger hosted like you guys.
As for your site, i tried again! hopefully it works now

  45. mayaari says:

so pretty! I think I need to break open my konad kit and give it a shot next weekend :)

I was totally thinking about trimming my nails down to nothing again, but after seeing your manicure, I think I’m just going to file them a bit and do some glitter tips!

  46. mona says:

  47. Rinfu-chan says:
