BYS Cosmetics Review + EOTD!

OKok i know a lot of you warned me not to buy any BYS cosmetics whilst in Australia and to be honest i didnt intend to either especially since a lot of you said that despite the very low price tag, BYS was terrible quality so i thought i would save my money for something else.

That said..i still ended up with the following from my trip to Australia….
And there is a good reason for it XD

This was how it started.
BYS – Eye Creme Splat
Price: AUD$8.95 [About USD$8.30]

I was deeply attracted to this eye palette because of its creme nature and odd display..
Dont believe me..look at this!
Shocked? Me too! This is how it actually looks like BRAND NEW! i thought it was damaged or something when i saw the display palette till i realised this is what it should look like!!

The ingredients didnt impress me either..
Yah mineral oil is actually listed as the top ingredient [usually the ingredient that is of the highest content in the product is the first ingredient listed]

But..i bought it anyway…Why?
Well other the fact my skin has no issues with mineral oil…the swatches look like this..
Is it not just absolutely GORGEOUS??
I havent done a look with this yet so i cant tell you guys whether it creases or lasts etc but i will soon!

Also picked this up..Reminds me of those VISEE safari palettes.
Eyeshadow Animal Instincts in DARKS
Price: AUD$4.95 [About USD$4.60USD]
I havent actually tried this as i am still trying to buy another one for a certain safari buddy. So if i cant get another one, will be giving this to her.

But here is one i actually tried and am reviewing!
Eyeshadow 8 Pallet Metallics Purples
Price: AUD$4.95 [About USD$4.60USD]

– lets be honest..its cheap XD
– lovely payoff! i adore the color in the top left hand corner. I was so in love, i think i practically bought this palette just for it.
– nice range of purples [cos we all know i love purples and even with my big purple eyeshadow range , i found shades i didnt actually own]
– lasting flaking!
– didnt crease even without a base

– this disgusting talc baby powder smell. Maybe some of you like it but i dont. And its not just a small lingering scent. Just opening the palette gives off an overpowering talc powder smell as if you had a bottle of talc powder explode near you.
– no mirror
– the applicator that comes with it is absolutely rubbish [i threw it away]
– not easily available [to me XD]

And my EOTD
For this look, i used the 4 colors in the first 2 columns of the palette
It should look mostly bluish but since i took this photo with an iphone, i dont think it came out very well

Here’s the FOTD i posted previously

And in the last bit of BYS news, i also tested their neon eyeliners!!
Here are the swatches…
Arent they gorgeous?
I kinda regret not buying them all now [I didnt buy them as i already bought a whole box of MUFE aqua eyeliners during the last Sephora F&F sale but in hindsight i should have bought these pencils anyway since they are NEON and none of my MUFE pencils are] Oh well…live and learn XD

So my overall thoughts on BYS?
It is cheap and there are probably some really crappy products amongst them [for example, i tested the brushes and nail polish at the store and thought they were rubbish] but somehow i lucked out and got 3 things which were lovely and very much worthwhile adding to my stash ^^

I was going to organise a group order to get some BYS from Australia but i realised they actually have international stockists! So for those of you who wish to get some BYS but dont live in Australia, you can visit to see where their international stockists are!

Whilst we are on the topic of things i bought in Australia…i have a question to ask
Which of the following Neutrogena FaceWash/Mask is sold where you are?
The one on the left was purchased in Australia whereas the one on the right was purchased in UK

They do not seem to do the same thing [one for oil control, one for blackheads] but i didnt see the other being sold in the respective countries. I havent checked which is sold in HK yet but i will soon. But i’m wondering..which is the one sold where you are? or are both sold where you are?

FYI, i finished using the one on the right [Visibly Clear] recently and i think its fantastic!! I highly reccomend it. Will do a proper review/comparison of these once i finished using the one on the left too!

Cant believe its the start of a new week! Where did the time go? Weekends need to be longer XD
I’ve been busy furniture shopping over the weekend. Yes despite the fact i moved to Hong Kong over 3 months ago, i havent actually bought all the furniture i need yet. This is because i keep travelling!! Hoping i get everything done/found soon T=T

Till next time, hope everyone is doing well!
XOXO Yumeko

The Eye Cream splat palette looks almost moldy in that open picture but the swatches are GORGEOUS… and I suppose the moldy look goes away with enough use!

The Safari Darks palette is gorgeous and perfect for the safari friend, if we’re thinking for the same person! If we’re not, it’s still pretty! I love the Zebra design on the shadows (though this probably wears off?)

I love the purple palette!! It is definitely your colour this year for sure!

    HURRAY FOR NEON LINERS. I lust after the hot pink one, as you know. XD;

  2. sizbelle says:

guess its hard to complain when the makeup is so cheap and pigment.. maybe i’ll try one of these some days..

bys sells in singapore, yipee think i’m gonna try them real soon.

i dun see any of the cleanser above been sold here… maybe you can start a group purchase for the cleanser instead!!

  3. Anastacia says:

Wooooow! all your new eye shadows looks just so nice! Love those eyeliners!!

  4. Catherine says:

OMG! The antique gold cream one looks AMAZING!! I can’t wait to see you do a FOTD with those! I really like the blue/purple EOTD and I totally want those neon liners teeheehee.

And hm. I think we have the RapidClear line here… I don’t remember seeing Visibly Clear, but I’ll check next time I’m at the d/s for sure. =)

  5. VanityMakeup says:

The rapid clear is the one I have. (:

  6. May says:

The e/s palette looks so pigment and it’s so cute. It doesn’t hurt to try. Can’t wait to see your EOTD:) You look extra lovely with purple e/s. Purple is not my color, it looks like I have a bruise hehe. I love the neon eyeliners, they’re so unique. I think I have been both Neutrogena face wash masks here but, I’ll double check when I’m at our favorite stores next time:]

  7. M.A.C.nunu says:

I love that purple palette! I just saw that they have a distributor in South Africa but I can’t say I’ve seen the brand there before.
About the Neutrogena face washes, SA had both those lines and I still have a bottle of the Visibly Clear wash and mask but I can’t say I like it much. The minty cool feeling it gives me makes me think I’m putting toothpaste on my face so I stopped using it xD It’s about 2 years old now so I should probably throw it out -__- glad you liked it tho! I think I’ve also seen them in Canada.

  8. Lulu says:

oh my the colors are so rich! and the palette looks really unique. I <3 neutrogena products! Thanks for your birthday wishes sweetie, I had a great birthday 🙂

  9. Hannah says:

the colors are SO pigmented! i like it! ( :

  10. Georgina says:

those neon liners look really cool! the eye creme splat too! 🙂 glad to see some of your cheap thrills yumeko! 🙂

  11. ran says:

I love the Eye Cream splat palette !!

  12. Salina says:

Hmm, they look pretty good for BYS. The only thing i love about them is their nail polish! I’ve never given their make-up line a chance! I think i might 🙂

  13. Silkybow says:

aww the BYS eyeshadow palette and the neon eyeliners look really cool!

  14. Lemon Sorbet says:

You have got the most beautiful eyes!!!
Hope you will get a sewing table soon…

  15. Shu Zhen says:

None of the Neutrogena products are sold in my country 🙁 Only handcreams.
    Love the make up 🙂

    • Bittenbefore says:

oh wow i see! i thought it is sold worldwide but slightly different! i hope they will sell it at ur end soon!

  16. Blair says:

Yume, I saw the safari eyeshadow quad in ViVi and I was very intrigued by it! They also featured a couple of other BYS products but I can only recall the animal themed one for now hahaha. Did you try out their leopard print lipgloss?

  17. Dina (XYYan) says:

Those colors are really pigmented! No wonder you gave in 😀 Did you see any Kit products in Australia? I got one from my brother, I’m wondering if it’s good or not.

  18. Yasumi says:

Really interesting how differently similar/the same things are marketed in different countries. For example stuff labelled WHITENING in “ASIA” (LOL) is labelled “Brightening” over here.

Those shadows look a bit scary…..mainly because of the mineral oil. You worked it well and teh colours look stunning. I would have tried it too if I weren’t afraid of the mineral oil bogey man!

  19. Ting Ting says:

    Omg…the colours are amazing!! =)

  20. Nikki says:

you’ve managed to create a nice look with it, the colors are great but oh my on the photo, it looks like its cracked and shattered!

  21. tomomi says:

you make everything look better than it is!

haven’t been following in awhile but loving your posts. will start following again and blogging.

    thanks for sharing your experience!

  22. Karrie says:

In California, I believe the equivalent product is called Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask.

It can be used as a cleanser or a 5 minute mask.
It says used as a daily cleanser, it kills the bacteria that causes blackheads and breakouts.
Used as a mask, for deep cleansing and extra oil control.

It contains 3.5% benzoyl peroxide and is dermatologist tested.

    Sold in 4.2 ounces (125mL).

Active Ingredients: Benzoyl Peroxide 3.5% (Acne Treatment).

Inactive Ingredients:Water, Glycerin, Kaolin, Bentonite, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Titanium Dioxide, Trideceth-9, PEG-5 Ethylhexanoate, Menthol, Sodium Citrate, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Fragrance.

  23. I love your EOTD, but I do admit to being shocked by the product!

  24. adin says:

oh those neon liners looks so nice…..

  25. says:

those are reallllllllllllllllllly pretty swatches! i wanna try your rice cake =) i will have to do that some time!

  26. Irene says:

Ooooh I love the palettes! The colors are so shimmery and gorgeous – the splat palette and purple palette would be ones that I fell in love with as well 😉

You did a great job with the EOTD, such nice blending! Thank you for sharing 😀

  27. ldy says:

these palettes looks AMAZING the colors are so jewel like!
I dont see either of those Neutrogena washes here -_-

  28. wow the cream shadows have such cool presentation. For that price, I would probably just buy it for the look in the pan. Even if they do crease, the colors look good. You can probably use them as sheered out bases too. Pretty EOTD and omg I love the look of those neon liners. So gorgeous!

  29. Monica says:

The BYS reminds me of NYX products, not sure if I’d buy either. As for the Neutrogena I’m pretty sure here in Canada its the one on the left. I’ve been using the Acne Stress 3-in-1 leave on treatment from the same line for blackheads & its a pretty good product for blackheads.

  30. Becky says:

The first palette does look a bit odd… Kinda of like it was dropped on the floor…
But the colours are so vibrantly beautiful! I really like the colour of those neon eye liners too.
    Lovely EOTD 🙂

  31. Mari says:

lovely eotd! those shadows look so pretty and pigmented!:)
i heard good things about the neutrogena cleanser/mask!

  32. Olive says:

Hey there pretty eyes, great fotd!!

  33. ali says:

i love BYS 😡 i have a whole stack of BYS stuff that i’m secretly ashamed of, but i can’t help but keep buying from them cos 1) they’re SO cheap compared even to drugstore stuff, 2) for the price i pay, the payoff is pretty damn great.

the e/s animal instincts quad looks interesting. i’ll have to drop by the shops to get a look at that.

anyhoo, if you ever need/wanna get something from BYS, i’ll be more than happy to help ^^

    • Bittenbefore says:

oooh what else from BYS do you like?> why secretly ashamed? i like cheap brands as much as expensive problems hahaha
might have to take u up on the BYS offer! i secretly want the neon blue eyeliner pencil hahahha anything u want from hk in return?

      • ali says:

i really like their blushes. i have about three or four of those, & i have are duplicates cos i like them that much lol i also have quite a few lippies, which i wouldn’t really recommend cos they’re quite bad, but i love the colors so i tolerate the bad taste & bad staying power. & until recently i used their brushes too (cos they were cheap & i really could not convince myself to shell out the $$$ for a mac brush), but have since converted to ecotools; thank God for priceline! lol

but anyways, it’ll be no trouble at all if you want anything from BYS, since i’m thinking of going down to see that animal instincts quad keke nothing from hk that i want at the moment though, since i just went there not too long ago. thanks for offering! ^^

        • Bittenbefore says:

u must tell me which are ur fave blushes!
i dont actually like ecotools brushes either…but maybe i got the wrong ones. [i got two sets in a swap and cant say they worked out for me sadly]
i am particular abt the shape of the brush..isnt that odd hahaha

i actually ended up getting some bys from a friend in australia so dont worry about it
but do let me know what blush u like so i can ask her too haha she’s visiting me from hk u see

  34. Oct says:

sounds like you had tons of fun in australia! ;D

your eyebrows are so nicely shapes. any secrets? once upon a time when i was in hong kong, i had them shaped at the beauty salon. it’s been 3 years now and the shape is gone.

    • Bittenbefore says:

aww thanks! actually i do my eyebrows myself! i think the best tip i have is constant maintenance. even if u get it done at a beauty salon you have to maintain it almost every day [random plucking or shaving the hairs that are long etc]

  35. Mariko says:

Thanks for adding my blog to your following list! ^^ I really like the metallic purples, purple is definitely a really nice eyeshadow colour.

Just curious, since you’re in Hong Kong, do you still keep up with your BJD hobby?

    • Bittenbefore says:

yah purple works for me ^^
haha its funny u asked me about bjd..well the thing is, i have always been a fairly private bjd hobbyist XD
i dont tend to go to many doll meets even in japan nor do i visit the forums. i do like going to doll shops and dressing my own dolls though
so yes even in hong kong, i guess i am still keeping up with my bjd hobby. i still make clothes for them and work on them ^^

  36. Those eyeshadow colours look gorgeous! I used that Neutrogena cleanser last week (the UK one) when I was at my friend’s house and was surprised at how good it was.

  37. Marce says:

Oh those palettes are so pretty! Specially the marbled one! Nice EOTD too 🙂

  38. evie says:

    ooh pretty eotd! purple!<3
yay for drugstores finds!! hmm i'm not v sure abt the neutrogena ones (they look familiar but maybe because i use to see them online on haha! not sure) will tel you when i check it out! =D

  39. Nani says:

They sell the ‘Visibly Clear’ here.. I’m not that fond of it. It’s completely useless if you ask me. The consistency is weird – kinda like cookie dough – and it doesn’t seem to be cleansing my face AT ALL.

  40. I have yet to come over to your place for make up lessons LOL!!
Your EOTD is stunning as always my dear.
