Have you heard of the Deco Roll? Its quite popular lately and there are quite a few books related to this topic this year.
Here’s one of them

Usually the recipe states that one must use an oven but i have found that we are able to use the microwave too.
And i am here to share my finding and recipe with you!!!
First of all, we have to make the deco part!
What you will need

3 tablespoons of flour
Food coloring – depends on the design you are doing
2 tablespoons of lukewarm water
Mix the coloring through evenly

Line a pan with greaseproof paper [20cm X 20cm]

DO NOT USE a metal pan as u are microwaving this!!
i assume you guys knew this but just as an added note, do not use aluminium foil since its metal and should not go in the microwave
Pipe the design on

Okok so i didnt do an awesome job…XD
Microwave on medium 600W for 40seconds

Leave aside to cool and work on the main cake batter
What you will need

2 eggs
50g sugar
1 tsp baking powder
20g butter
50g flour
2 tablespoons of milk
Beat the eggs with sugar till fluffy

Add baking powder + flour [sifted]
Fold in melted butter + milk
Pour in the lined pan and microwave on medium 600w for 3 mins

Leave to cool

Do not put the filling in whilst the cake is still hot. Your filling will “melt”
How to make the cream cheese filling [you can use cream or fruit or watever you like]

1 block of cream cheese
30g of sugar
Mix through and coat the cake evenly

Using the greaseproof paper, roll the ends to meet and you are done!

Ok i admit the design wasnt fantastic. i will try harder next time!!
its super yummy and very fluffy! you really gotta try it!
In the meantime, check out the decoroll book Author’s Blog with plenty of pics/ideas : http://ameblo.jp/chottono-kufu/theme-10020222212.html
The possibilities are endless! Check out how the pro does it!
And a video which explains the steps [though they use the oven instead of the microwave]
Any questions? Please feel free to ask!
Hope you try this recipe. If you try it, please let me know!
Happy Wednesday!
XOXO Yumeko
p.s though the idea of deco roll cakes are not originally from me, the recipe to do it in the microwave is. i came up with it myself so please do not copy and repost elsewhere without my permission.

i havent bought any of the books as we are energy saving in japan and i thought it would be a bit wasteful to use the oven [since u need to cook the deco part, then the main cake part] so i came up with the microwave recipe

Hi! i am glad you tried it out and it worked out well!
my microwave doesnt have a turntable in it so i dont think it matters if it turns or doesnt
however if it didnt cook through, maybe u can try a “thinner” design, dont make the design too thick else it wont cook through
lmk if you have other questions
